Counselling and Psychotherapy are talking therapies, conducted in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental manner by a therapist trained to listen sympatheticallly and support you through various stages/problems in your life. Counselling is often shorter term (typically anywhere from one session to ten sessions). This type of approach can assist you in dealing with a more specific issue(s) that has arisen in your life. Psychotherapy is often longer term (anywhere from several months to a few years). This type of therapy is used for clients who want to examine their lives more in-depth and for issues that are too big to resolve in only a handful of sessions. At some stage, you may experience feelings of stress, disspointment and grief. At these times, seeking assistance can help you deal with your feelings and emotions. In therapy sessions, you can explore various aspects of your life and feelings, talking about them in a way that is not often possible with friends or family. Talking therapy is a way of enabling choice or change or of reducing confusion. It does not involve giving specific advice or directing a client to take a particular course of action.
